I just read an article in Cracked.com that validated many of the issues I have with various romantic comedies: most of the ways a character shows love in these films is illegal (unfortunately, they tap Twilight only once). I mean, who wouldn't want to be stalked by a would-be suitor and find out he has tons of pictures of you in his apartment, or have him disable your vehicle to "protect" you?
This article reminded me of the music list I want to create: Songs of the Stalker. All the cliched love songs that, if looked at carefully, are downright disturbing. Not even The Monkees were left out of this one.
- Mary Mary, by The Monkees: "Mary, Mary, where you going to? Wherever you go, I will follow." This after the guy has been rejected by said Mary.
- Norwegian Wood, by The Beatles. At the end of this song, the hoodwinked young man lights the woman's beloved furniture on fire.
- Every Breath You Take, by The Police. "Every breath you take, Every move you make ... I'll be watching you." Yeah, that spells romance.
Unfortunately, I keep forgetting to write down my list, so those are the only ones that easily come to mind. I'll write down my list eventually, but what are your favorite rom coms and love songs that break laws or in real terms are actually creepy? Please share, then I can truly create my play list, Songs of the Stalker. I'll even share!
